“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

Recognizing the inner struggle and longing for resolution as an inevitable part of the creative process the artist was curious to capture the chaos Nietzsche is referring to in this two-part installation.

Drawing on Nietzsche's high regard for dancing and the artist personal background; Konvalina decided to explore the subject both visually and physically, creating a dialogue between these different forms of expression.

Konvalina collaborated with actual “dancing star” principal ballerina Ksenia Ovsyanick portraying what this inner struggle looks like through body and motion and then incorporating impressions of the movements, contractions, and contortions of the body and the mind in the painting.

This quote offers so many possibilities for interpretations and metaphors. The chaos we experience as a society these days from political to social to personal; hoping on all of these fronts for certain clarity and positive resolution - “The dancing star” A poetic expression for the bright idea and the desired outcome.
