In this distilled, deconstructed look into the medium of painting, Zeit für Brot exhibition offers a point of consideration on the context we are operating in today. The artist is drawn to a certain idea of reset, and as the title suggests, refocuses the attention on the basic core elements, to get to the point of reevaluation and where to go forward from here.

 

   Dissecting the definition of the art form of painting the fundamental component here is identified as paint on a surface. With the font painted out as a figurative element, the focus of the works becomes the medium itself.

 

   Deciding on such literal depiction Konvalina refers to the culture of labelling, branding, and explicit information we are so used to demanding nowadays. 

 

   In search of where there is a place for imagination in such an environment, the artist generates a striking contrast by working with and combining oils and spray paint [which has been the main tool of Konvalina's practice], creating a conversation between the materiality of one medium and ephemerality of the other. The artist also reduces the colour pallet to simplify and clarify even further, with that highlighting the black and white prism and polarisation the world currently operates within.
